The Yankee Hat rock art site and Yankee Hat walking trail from Bogong Creek remain closed to public access until further notice to enable track upgrades to occur. Completion of these works is anticipated by the end of June 2025.
16 May 2025 until 27 May 2025
The Australian Alps Walking Track is closed from 16 May to 27 May 2025 to allow for the thermal assisted aerial control program to take place. The track will reopen on 28 May.

Explore the many and varied walking tracks throughout Namadgi National Park.

4WD only is recommended on Booroomba Rocks Road, Old Boboyan Road and Orroral Ridge Road.

Mount Aggies magnificent views towards Kosciuszko National Park.

Distance: 3 km return from Mt Franklin Road (45 minutes)

Status: Open.

Enjoy an easy walk through Snow Gum woodlands with magnificent views to Kosciuszko National Park. Possible snow in winter and a profusion of wildflowers in summer. This walk is partly within the Bimberi Nature Reserve, managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Distance: 1 km loop from Namadgi Visitor Centre (30-45 minutes)

Status: Open

A short stroll through endangered Yellow Box Blakely's Red Gum Grassy Woodland with interpretive displays on Namadgi's natural and cultural heritage.

Rendezvous Creek

Distance: 3.2 km loop from Boboyan Road (1.5 hours)

Status: Open

A short introduction to the park featuring mountain streams, boulders, woodland, forest, open grassy areas and views to the Gudgenby Valley. This walking track provides a starting point for access to the Rendezvous Creek Fire Trail.

Booroomba Rocks

2.5 km return from Booroomba Rocks carpark to the top of Booroomba Rocks (1.5 hours)
8 km return from Honeysuckle Campground to Booroomba Rocks carpark via the Australian Alps Walking Track (2.5 hours)
10.5 km return from Honeysuckle Campground to the top of Booroomba Rocks via the Australian Alps Walking Track (4 hours)

Status: Open (We recommend 4WD only on Booroomba Rocks Road)

Walk through tall forests to fantastic views from massive granite cliffs. Some steep sections. A moderate level of bushwalking experience is required due to distance and remoteness. Beware dangerous cliff edge.

Enjoy the history of skiing display at the Franklin Shelter, then walk to the summit of Mt Franklin for fantastic views.

Shannahans Mountain

Distance: 3 km loop from Boboyan Road (1.5 hours)

Status: Open

A pleasant walk through Snow Gums to the summit of Shanahans Mountain with views eastward over the Clear Range to the Tinderry Range in NSW.

Yerrabi

Distance: 4km return from Boboyan Road (2 hours)

Status: Open

A walk with great variety - dry and wet forest, swampy grassland, Black Sallee woodlands, granite formations and wildflowers. From Little Dry Creek climb to the summit of Mt Boboyan and then down on to huge granite tors with magnificent views of the Bimberi Wilderness. See the zone of contact of sedimentary and granite rocks.

Bendora Arboretum

Distance: 5 km return from Mt Franklin Road (2 hours) This includes the marked track through the plots.

Status: Open

Walk through Snow Gums and Mountain Gums to a delightful stand of conifers planted in the 1900's as a research arboretum. There is a short, marked walking track through the plots along with interpretive signs.

See the rehabilitation of a former pine plantation back to native forest. Walk or cycle through Candlebarks and Snow Gums. Side excursion possible to Eleanor's Grove on Hospital Creek.

Settlers Track

6 km loop from Boboyan Road (4 hours)
9 km loop via Waterhole Hut from Boboyan Road (5 hours)

Status: Open

Walk back in time to experience huts, homesteads and other historic sites from the 19th and 20th centuries. This corner of Namadgi National Park was untouched by the 2020 bushfire.

Yankee Hat

Distance: 6 km return from Yankee Hat carpark, Old Boboyan Road (2.5 hours)

Status: CLOSED for bushfire recovery works

Stroll through expansive grasslands dotted with kangaroos to the Yankee Hat shelter to view ancient Ngunnawal rock art. Easy walking with impressive mountain views.

Brandy Flat

Grade 4

Distance:

10 km return from Glendale Crossing to Brandy Flat Hut (3 to 4 hours)
20 km return to complete the full trail, or leave a car at each end for a 10 km option (6 hours)

Status: Open

A pleasant walk through box woodland and dry forest. Brandy Flat Hut (1980's) is along the track. Very steep sections on the southern half of the walk mean that a return walk to the hut from Glendale Crossing is a gentler option.

Status: Open

Explore huge granite boulders, Alpine Ash forests and Snow Gum woodlands. Enjoy fantastic mountain views from Square Rock Lookout and a viewpoint at the head of the Orroral Valley (on a side-track).

Old Boboyan Road

Distance: 14 km return from Yankee Hat carpark, Old Boboyan Road OR Old Boboyan Road South (entry from Boboyan Road) (5 hours)

Status: Open (We recommend 4WD only on Old Boboyan Road)

Walk part of the mostly flat, original road to Adaminaby. Learn about the rehabilitation of a pine plantation to native trees and enjoy the Boboyan Valley grassland with views, marshland (fens) and pastoral heritage.

13 km return from Corin Dam to the junction with Mt Franklin Road (6 hours)
22 km return extended option to visit Pryors Hut and Mt Gingera (8 to 9 hours)

Status: Open

The Stockyard Spur track climbs steeply through tall eucalypt forests west of Corin Dam up to Snow Gum woodlands on the Brindabella Range. This track involves a 700 metre ascent and a 700 metre descent. It requires a reasonable level of fitness.

Distance: 14.5 km return from Mt Franklin Road (6 hours) OR if walking via Stockyard Spur start on Corin Road (8 to 9 hours)

Status: Open.

A beautiful mountain walk through Snow Gums with panoramic views from the summit. Alpine wildflowers in summer. Visit Pryors Hut on the way. Last 1km is steep.

15 km return from Namadgi Visitor Centre after-hours carpark to the summit (6 hours)

Status: Open

A challenging walk with magnificent views. Start from the Namadgi Visitor Centre after hours carpark, walk along the Woodland Walk, then on the Mt Tennent Track to Cypress Pine Lookout. Continue up the steep track that leads to the summit. You can also start at the locked gate on the Apollo Road (first 1 km is on private property) following the Mt Tennent fire trail.

Cycling permitted on fire trail section only.

Naas Valley to Horse Gully Hut

Distance: 16 km return from Mt Clear Campground (7 hours)

Status: Open.

A very steep walk through tall forest and granite boulders to views of the Orroral Valley from the former geodetic observatory.

Nursery Swamp

Distance: 8.5 km return (4 hours)

Status: Open.

Walk through dry and wet forest and see massive granite boulders and a large fen (sedge swamp). First 2 kilometres is steep.

Walk through open grassy valleys. Discover pastoral heritage including huts, ruins, stockyards and exotic plantings.

Smokers Trail

Distance: 20.5km one way from Corin Road to Orroral Tracking Station (7.5 hours)

Status: Open.

Varied vegetation from Black Sallee flats to Alpine Ash forest. Steep sections. This trail is mostly downhill, if starting from the north. Connects to other walking tracks.

Distance: 6 km one way (2.5 hours)

Status: Open.

Discover Orroral Valley history via informative signs along the way. Grassland walking with mountain and river views.

Orroral Valley Circuit

Grade 4

Distance: 19 km loop from Orroral Tracking Station (1 day)

Status: Open.

This loop track can be walked in either direction. The fire trail is steeper while the track up the centre of the valley has a gentler grade. The loop is joined at its northern end by 2 kilometres of the Smokers Trail. The walk has views, kangaroos and wildflowers.

Australian Alps Walking Track (AAWT)

Distance: 650 km one way (6 to 8 weeks)

Status: Open.

A 650 kilometre track that winds through the high country of south eastern Australia, linking this ancient mountain landscape. The entire track traverses rugged remote alpine country in Victoria, NSW and the ACT. Bushwalkers must be experienced and self-reliant. The track climbs some of the country's highest peaks and crosses exposed high plains. It passes through magnificent tall forest as well as gnarled Snow Gum woodlands, and visits sites rich in history. Most people choose to walk sections of the track rather than its entire length.

Before you go

Prepare by understanding safety and checking alerts.

Drop in to the Namadgi Visitor Centre for the latest updates.

In Namadgi's camping and walking areas, you will need to:

tell someone where you are going and when you’ll return, especially if you plan to venture into remote areas
make a campground or cottage booking
abide by campfire usage guidelines
check road conditions, and use a 4WD or chains when required in winter
take your rubbish with you (bins are not provided)
bring your own drinking water
bring your own firewood (or purchase it from Namadgi Visitor Centre)
be aware that mobile phone reception may be unreliable
check water quality before swimming

Please abide by rules noted on the signs at entrances to the park.

Drones are not permitted to be used in Namadgi National Park.
