Barbecues

Public barbecues are electric or gas and can be used for free.

You can also bring your own gas barbecue.

Picnics

Picnic facilities vary in each location. Most parks offer picnic tables, benches or chairs and some have shelter. Choose the BBQs/Seating checkbox option to display these locations on the Find a park page.

Cafés

Some urban parks and nature reserves are located near local cafés.

You can also find a café at the National Arboretum Canberra.

Staying safe

During a total fire ban, electric barbecues will be available for use, however all gas barbecues will be turned off.

Gas or electric barbecues may only be used during a total fire ban if:

the barbecue is under constant adult supervision and attendance
the area within 3 metres of the barbecue is cleared of all materials which could burn
a fire extinguisher or continuous supply of water is available for use to extinguish any fire if required

Some more remote locations may have fireplaces that can be used for cooking or providing warmth. Understand your obligations when using campfires before you head off.
