Planned Park Closures: Thermal Assisted Aerial Control (TAAC) Program

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service will carry out its annual Thermal Assisted Aerial Control (TAAC) program from Thursday 8 May to Friday 30 May 2025. This operation targets vertebrate pest species in key conservation areas, water catchments, and some semi-urban locations across the ACT. Park and reserve closures will be in place during this period for public safety.

Dogs

The Australian Capital Territory is home to over 90 parks, including Namadgi National Park, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Canberra Nature Park (a network of 39 nature reserves), as well as urban parks. While many of these areas’ welcome dogs, the rules vary: some allow dogs on-leash, others off-leash, and in certain parks, dogs are not allowed at all.

Make sure you check a reserve’s permitted activities before entering with your dog; you can find these can on signs at park entrances, plans of management or via the links below. Fines may be imposed under the Domestic Animals Act 2000 or the Nature Conservation Act 2014 if you take a dog where it is prohibited or if you do not comply with the restrictions applying to dogs in parks and reserves.
