Red Hill Nature Reserve

Panoramic views of the capital and part of Canberra Nature Park

Red Hill Nature Reserve is a 293-hectare protected area on the eastern edge of Woden Valley. The reserve's ridgeline forms an impressive 'Bush Capital' backdrop to Parliament House when viewed from Mount Ainslie Nature Reserve or Anzac Parade.

Red Hill Nature Reserve consists of a forested ridge extending from the adjacent Mount Mugga Mugga Nature Reserve more than 3 km northward to the suburb of Deakin, and including Davidson Hill (750 m) and Red Hill (720 m). Red Hill Lookout provides striking views of central Canberra and Lake Burley Griffin.

Red Hill Nature Reserve is part of an extensive landscape of remnant wooded vegetation providing connectivity and enabling wildlife movement through to NSW in the east, to the Murrumbidgee River in the west, and to the southern ACT through Tuggeranong Hill and Rob Roy Range nature reserves.

The geology of Red Hill Nature Reserve is unique in the ACT. Exposures of igneous tonalite and metamorphic hornfels are regionally significant examples of their type and an important educational feature.

Cycling is only permitted on management trails and on the Centenary Trail.
