Climbing

Climbers are responsible for their own safety. Climbing is a risky activity – you climb at your own risk.

When climbing, bouldering or abseiling, please:

• get training from qualified and experienced people before venturing onto the rock
• let someone know where you are going and when you'll return
• do not create informal tracks or damage vegetation
• do not move rocks or fallen branches
• do not disturb plants and animals ('gardening' or removing existing vegetation from cliffs is illegal in reserves)
• keep group sizes small and be considerate of other users
• take care of vegetation when placing mats for protection
• keep cliffs natural – avoid the use of chalk on rock faces sheltered from the rain
• do not manufacture holds or chip rock – doing so is illegal in reserves
• do not place fixed equipment such as bolts – this is illegal in reserves
• do not modify existing climbs – preserve climbs in the spirit of their first ascent
• take your rubbish with you
