Commercial activities
All commercial or organised activities in ACT parks and reserves need a public land permit.
We support low impact activities that respect the natural and cultural values of each site.
Most small family gatherings or birthday parties do not need a permit. You will need a permit if there are more than 50 people, and/or you plan to bring equipment like a marquee or jumping castle.
Applying for a permit
To apply for a permit, visit the Events on public land webpage for more information and to apply online. The online application is titled “Application to Use a Public Place for Events”. You will need to provide the following information:
- date/s of use and how often your activity will run
- a detailed site map showing:
- clearly marked section where you will hold your events/tours. If your event/ tour includes a route (i.e. bike ride or hike), please indicate this route on a map.
- location of where you plan on placing all objects and structures on the land (if applicable)
- public liability insurance details
- separate waste, risk, tree (if applicable) and temporary traffic (if applicable) management plans
Ensure you allow enough time for your application to be assessed. Most applications are processed within 28 days, but large events may need up to 6 months.
Multi-activity permit
If you are a commercial operator that runs many activities in different areas and across seasons you can request a longer-term multi-activity permit. These permits are for up to 3 years, with possible extension.
If a multi-activity permit is approved:
- fees are charged per participant, per activity
- you only pay one application fee
- you must report your participant numbers each month.
Fees
Fees may apply for permits depending on the activity. These fees are payable at the time of application.
