Woods Reserve campground in Namadgi National Park is closed until late Spring to enable a complete upgrade of the facilities and reserve area.

Bookings are essential.

If you plan on swimming here, before you enter the water, always check the water quality report for this location and keep an eye out for signs or potential hazards when you arrive at the waterway.

Woods Reserve is located on the banks of Gibraltar Creek south-west of Canberra. It is a popular place for camping (tents and campervans), picnics and functions.

Woods Reserve is available for overnight camping and day use. Camping fees apply.

Dogs are welcome on-leash within the campground only.

Ngunnawal Country and People

Woods Reserve is located on Ngunnawal Country, an ancient and diverse landscape managed by and cared for Ngunnawal people for tens of thousands of years.

For time immemorial Ngunnawal people have maintained a tangible and intangible cultural, social, environmental, spiritual, and economic connection to these lands and waters.

European heritage

Edward (Ned) Woods and his wife Julia (nee Sheedy) were tenant farmers on Yarralumla Estate with their 10 children until Julia's death in 1886.

In 1889, Ned moved his family to the Tidbinbilla area before settling at Gibraltar Creek in 1893. The house can be seen near the junction of the current Corin Road and Tidbinbilla Road.

From 1911 the Woods brothers, Tom, Martin and John, farmed the land their father had acquired in the Gibraltar Creek and Paddys River area.

In 1964, the Gibraltar Creek Pine Plantation was established in this area. In the mid-1970s, Woods Reserve was developed for camping and picnics.

Prepare by:

Remember:

bring your own drinking water (river and tank water should be treated or boiled before drinking)
abide by campfire usage guidelines:
- bring your firewood with you or purchase it from the Namadgi Visitor Centre or Tidbinbilla Visitor Centre
- only use constructed fireplaces provided
- do not light a fire a on a day of total fire ban
- keep 3 metres around the fireplace clear of flammable material
- remain in attendance at all times
- completely extinguish the fire before leaving
for your safety, please keep to walking tracks and do not swim above the waterfall
you can bring your own gas barbecue
mobile phone reception may be unreliable
drones are not permitted to be used in Namadgi National Park

Drop into the Namadgi Visitor Centre or Tidbinbilla Visitor Centre.

How to get there

Woods Reserve is located on Corin Road, 5.3 km from the Tidbinbilla Road turn-off. It is 15 minutes' drive from Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and 7 minutes' drive from Corin Forest.

Parking is available.
