Eddison District Park

Eddison Park is named after the Eddison family, who owned the property of ‘Yamba’ prior to the development of Woden. In the 1960s, development of the Phillip area included a site for a town park between Yamba Drive and Woden Cemetery.

Planning and development commenced in 1972. It was named Eddison Park in 1988, then officially opened in February 1992 after construction of an entry gateway facing The Canberra College on Launceston Street.

The radial design reflects the adjacent cemetery. A fountain lies at the hub of the cemetery design, while a substantial ornamental pond takes the central position in the design for the park. These two hubs are linked with a common axis, which extends to the main park entrance on Launceston Street.

The remainder of the park follows the cemetery's radial planting geometry and exotic plant choices.
