Namarag

Nature under restoration and a new recreation hub for the local community

Namarag is a 35-hectare nature space within the Molonglo River Reserve.

Namarag is located on Ngunnawal Country, an ancient and diverse landscape managed and cared for by Ngunnawal people for tens of thousands of years. For time immemorial Ngunnawal people have maintained a tangible and intangible cultural, social, environmental, spiritual, and economic connection to these lands and waters.

Namarag means 'wattle' in Ngunnawal language.

Namarag provides sweeping views over the Molonglo River corridor and broader Molonglo Valley, offering walking tracks, river access, fishing, picnics and nature play. Namarag's bushland is being restored to help conserve our native plants and animals.

The area is home to the threatened Pink-tailed Worm-lizard, Superb Parrot and Yellow Box–Red Gum Grassy Woodland.

Bicycle riding (including mountain bike riding) is permitted on management trails only.

Horse riding is not presently permitted at Namarag because of traffic safety issues in the vicinity of Coppins Crossing. Horse riding routes will be introduced once the new Molonglo River bridge is complete.

At Namarag, dogs are permitted on-leash on a track or trail. Please check before visiting other parts of Molonglo River Reserve with your dog. Dogs are prohibited in some areas.

Swimming is discouraged as river conditions, water levels and water quality are notoriously unpredictable and can become dangerous at very short notice
