Budjan Galindji Grasslands Nature Reserve is a 20-hectare grassland and woodland protected area in Franklin.
The Ngunnawal language name Budjan Galindji means 'water bird' in English – a recognition of the migratory Latham's Snipe (Gallinago hardwickii) that visit the reserve's ephemeral wetlands.
Budjan Galindji Grasslands Nature Reserve protects crucial habitat for threatened grassland plants and animals. The critically endangered Box–Gum Woodland patch in the reserve's north-eastern corner is foraging habitat for nationally vulnerable Superb Parrots (Polytelis swainsonii).
Budjan Galindji Grasslands Nature Reserve's central location amongst several grassland and woodland reserves in northern Canberra (Mulligans Flat, Goorooyarroo, Mulanggari Grasslands, Gungaderra Grasslands, Crace Grasslands and Nadjung Mada nature reserves) helps connect separate areas of habitat for Swift Parrots and other bird species.
Passive, low-impact recreation, such as walking and birdwatching using existing tracks, is compatible with the sensitive natural values of this reserve.
Cycling including mountain bike riding is not permitted.
No dogs or horses allowed.
