Planned Park Closures: Thermal Assisted Aerial Control (TAAC) Program

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service will carry out its annual Thermal Assisted Aerial Control (TAAC) program from Thursday 8 May to Friday 30 May 2025. This operation targets vertebrate pest species in key conservation areas, water catchments, and some semi-urban locations across the ACT. Park and reserve closures will be in place during this period for public safety.

Kambah District Park is a 22 hectare space with an adventure playground, picnic area, barbecue and public toilets.

The adventure playground is designed for all ages. It features junior and senior flying foxes, giant swings, space net, accessible liberty swing, accessible birds nest swing and mound slides.

The historic Kambah woolshed offers one of the few covered public picnic/barbecue areas in the ACT (if you are holding a large event a permit may be required).

Dogs are welcome on-leash as outlined on the dog exercise area map and are prohibited within 10 metres of a public play space, fireplace or barbecue in use.

Ngunnawal Country and People

Kambah District Park is located on Ngunnawal Country, an ancient and diverse landscape managed by Ngunnawal people for tens of thousands of years.

For time immemorial Ngunnawal people have maintained a tangible and intangible cultural, social, environmental, spiritual, and economic connection to these lands and waters.

European heritage

The savannah woodland area was previously a rural property known originally as ‘Sulwood’. At the turn of the century, it had become known as Kambah and is believed to have been operated as an outstation by the Campbells of Yarralumla until 1913 when purchased by the Commonwealth. The name is possibly of Aboriginal origin.

The park was developed in the 1970s to provide for a wide range of activities for all age groups, particularly young families. Development on the western side of Village Creek included conversion of the woolshed area into a group picnic area, new tennis courts and clubhouse (leased), adventure playground and toilet block.
